Professor Tay graduated from the University College London, UK with a basic degree in MBBS and a higher degree in MD with a thesis entitled “Local Cervical Immune Reactions to Human Papillomavirus Infection and Its Associated Neoplasia”. He took specialist training in obstetrics & gynaecology in London and received subspecialty training in colposcopy and laser treatment of pre-invasive disease of the cervix while working with Professor Albert Singer PhD, Dphil (Oxon), FRCOG in London from 1982 to 1987. He also took a fellowship of the Ministry of Health, Singapore for a special interest in immunotherapy of gynaecological cancer at the MD Anderson Medical Centre and Institute of Tumours, Houston, Texas, USA in 1993. Professor Tay was admitted to the fellowship of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS) in 1989 and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists London (FRCOG) in 1998.

Prof Tay provides a full range of out-patient services and surgeries in obstetrics and gynaecology and carries subspecialty clinical privileges in Singapore General Hospital for colposcopy, women’s cancer surgery, minimally invasive surgery, therapeutic hysteroscopy and surgery for female urinary stress incontinence. He also has a special interest in treatment of endometriosis.

Prof Tay is a faculty member in academic clinical program for training of residents in obstetrics and gynaecology. He also maintains a long-term research interest in human papillomavirus infection and women’s cancer. He has written a book on “Cervical cancer: Its Causes and Prevention” and has contributed chapters to many text books in gynaecology. He has also published more than 100 research papers in peer reviewed medical and scientific journals.
